Shield

The shield of Torrevieja represents the symbolism of the Torrevieja coast of former times.

In the sea we can see sailing boats, which were the method of exportation of salt from the salt works.

The two small houses and ravine at ground level represent early Torrevieja, against a sky with scattered seagulls. The watch tower occupies the centre of the shield, in a semi-destroyed state, reminding us of the devastating earthquake which struck Torrevieja in 1829. Also in the shield is the rombus with red and yellow borders, a sign of belonging to the former kingdom of Aragón. The emblem is crowned with the symbolic royal crown.
