Social Services

In these programmes, citizens are provided with guidance about the most suitable resources. If a citizen requires more specialised attention, s/he will be referred to a second level of the Social Services.

General Programmes and Services

1. Information, Guidance and Advice Programmes
These are programmes that are aimed at all citizens in order to inform, guide and advise them about their rights and social resources.

2. Social Cooperation Programmes
These programmes promote social initiative and encourage associations and volunteer groups, in order to help people integrate into society. Activities are carried out that promote personal and group development.

3. Social Emergency Programmes: benefits and economic aid
These benefits are aimed at citizens in order to prevent risk situations, tackling the factors that give rise to such situations and implementing material and economic actions.

4. Home Help Programme
This is a social community service that works on a preventive, educational and welfare level. It is provided for people and families who are having difficulties maintaining or re-establishing their physical, social and emotional well-being. The aim is to help them to continue living in their own home and surroundings, as long as this is possible and practical.

5. Social Integration Programmes
The aim of this programme is to improve the welfare and quality of life of people or groups who are in situations of risk or marginalisation. Specific actions are implemented to prevent exclusion or to achieve family and social integration.


Specialised Programmes and Services

Community Living and Social Integration Programme for Senior Citizens
Specialised Social Services for Senior Citizens aim to develop programmes and facilities in order to:

- Promote the socio-cultural development of senior citizens.
- Encourage their integration and participation in society
- Integrate senior citizens in their usual surroundings and thus avoid uprooting people in society.

Regional Government Social Welfare Programmes
Hydrotherapy, programmes aimed at prevention, rehabilitation and health promotion for senior citizens, to achieve healthy habits for a better quality of life.

Specialised Senior Citizen Care Centres CEAMs, their objective is to provide preventive care and they offer services aimed at keeping older people in a physical and emotional state that allows them to help themselves and remain in their usual surroundings.

Day Centres, this is a service that provides day-time care for elderly people with a certain degree of dependence. These centres provide facilities and specialist care that can be combined with the care received by the elderly from their family in their own home.

Alicante Provincial Council’s Programmes, Social Welfare Department
Home Telephone Helplines, This is a service connected to a telephone network, which allows older people to be permanently connected to a team of professionals who are trained to deal with their needs, 24 hours day, 365 days a year.

Workshop Programmes for Senior Citizens, These leisure programmes and courses are intended to change the social perception of older people through workshops for senior citizens. The aim is to improve their quality of life.

Subsidies granted to municipal councils and associations to provide facilities and social centres for senior citizens.


Municipal Programmes
Clubs and Old People’s Homes provide a space where senior citizens can carry out activities aimed at promoting associations, courses for senior citizens, leisure and free time.


Programmes aimed at women
The aim is promote women’s personal development and participation in society. The main activities are:
- Offering information, advice and support.
- Developing individual skills and promoting women’s personal autonomy.
- Building self-esteem, providing spaces for reflection and socialisation.


Regional Government Social Welfare Programmes
Promotion of associations, to promote and consolidate women’s associations and to encourage women to participate in all types of civic activities.

Women’s Legal Advice Telephone Helpline, this service provides information, guidance and advice on all kinds of legal issues required by women in the Region of Valencia.
24 hour Women’s Centres, the aim of this service is to provide comprehensive care, 24 hours a day, to women who are victims of physical, psychical and sexual assault and abuse.
Diputation of Alicante Programmes, Women’s Department
Courses for Women, these are training programmes that help to reduce situations of inequality, lack of training etc, in order to facilitate the incorporation of women into the workforce.
Subsidies granted to municipal councils and associations in order to integrate women into society and provide specific advice.

I have been working in Madrid since January 2006 and my job ends at the end of the month. I have been told that I can sign on and perhaps receive a small payment until I find more work. Can you advise me please? Thanks.

can anybody out there tell me of an organization tht could help my Aunt and her carer of many years, she is 76 yrs of age, she lives in formentera del segura, living in spain is becoming a night mare for her, she is 99% disabled because of problems with her hips, and her general health, her full time carer and partner is in need of some urgent respite himself,
