Classic car scene booming

The Classic Car scene on the Costa Blanca continues to go from strength to strength as evidenced over the last two weekends when over 140 cars participated in a number of events around Torrevieja.

Although grey skies did not inspire confidence in everybody to bring out their prized processions, between Friday night’s Noche del Coche and the Sunday Drivers Club, more than 60 cars made an appearance, some such as Paul in his spotless XR3i coming from Benidorm to join in the fun. The following Sunday, a group of forty or more cars from Orihuela Seat 600 Club also visited the city to explore the natural History Museum, followed by lunch and a cruise around town, while last week there was an another excellent showing off of cars for the Ace Café.

The Sunday Drivers Club saw another eight cars make a first time appearance, that have not been to the regular events before. An immaculate 1955 Simca, featuring a Ford V8 was one of the stars featured along with such crowd pleasers as a Bubble car, Mini Cooper, Porsche 911, BMW, Firebird, Camaro, Rolls Royce, Hummer, MG, Panther, Mazda, Toyota and others. More details from all of these events at www.nochedelcoche.com.

June is a bumper month for events, which started on Sunday with the Ace Café gathering at La Torre Hotel in Los Montesinos and this weekend we have two days of customised cars and bikes, lambo doors, exotic dances, loud music plus fantastic interiors and paint at the Alicante Sprint and Tuning Show at the IFA and then it’s time once again for the end of the month Noche del Coche and Sunday Drivers Club.

The Sprint and Tuning Show was the place to be if you like your cars loud, customised, fun and you are not afraid to stand out from the crowd! The seventh edition of the Alicante Sprint and Tuning show was a great success with the show now becoming a reference point for fans around Valencia and throughout Spain, with over two hundred cars and bikes on display plus many firms that specialise in tuning and customising, airbrushing, audio and light system, and the must have, Lambo Style Doors! There were a number of activates worth the price of admission including drifting displays, judging of car lighting systems, an exhibition of stunt driving and car destruction,

July 4th is American Independence day so on July 2nd there is a special day for American, Tuning, Customised, Hot Rods and Classics all happening at Meroil Garage in Catral. Called, Catral Customs and Classics, this new event starts at 1900-hrs and goes until late. The event is open to all ‘interesting’ and classic cars, with a specially prepared hotrod in transit from the UK for the show and goodie bags for all participants who display their cars or bikes. More info at www.nochedelcoche.com and on Facebook, under Catral Customs and Classics. Anyone selling their cars, no matter what age, modern, tuned or classic, is also invited to display at the show, or contact the organisers to have their car featured on their new website, coming soon, as they say, in the near future.

Even though petrol prices may be on the way up, times are good for classic and specialist cars fans as more events appear allowing them to pursue their hobby on the Costa Blanca. Lots of dates for your diary over the next month in the shape of Noche Del Coche, Sunday Drivers Club, Ace Café and the new Catral Custom and Classics. Vroom, Vroom!
