Official presentation
The official presentation of the FLAMENCO FOR ALL non profit cultural association was held on Wednesday, January 18th at the Casa Cultural in San Pedro del Pinatar presided by the Counsellor of Culture and Citizen Participation Silvia Egea. Ms. Egea opened the ceremony explaining the work of this Association in the fields of Spanish cultural and art by introducing the flamenco in understandable terms to the general public and the high level of integration it has achieved in a very short time.
Raquel Peña, the President of FLAMENCO FOR ALL welcomed the numerous audience and briefly explained the plans and goals for the near future. Plans include many activities for all ages and nationalities, performers, students and general audiences. The up and running very successful Sevillanas Social Club meets every last Sunday of each month and is open to all, dancers & non dancers alike. New classes for learning Flamenco dancing including the Sevillanas will start in February and have you dancing in time for the many Spring Sevillanas fairs held in this area. Conferences on understanding the Flamenco for the non-dancer will be held, learn to clap your hands properly, play the castanets and know what to look for with a general understanding of what you are seeing. The amateur performing dance group is made up of over 10 different nationalities and the ages range from 35 to 75 years old, this group performs free for charities and Folk festivals and is very much in demand. Plans include trips, social events and many activities year round.
Jane Cronin, the President of the ADAPT Association of San Pedro del Pinatar gave a very warm speech congratulating this new Association and talked about the important job the two Associations are doing to bring Spanish Culture to the many nationalities in this area and how the two Associations have been working together towards this goal.
The evening had the special entertainment of the FLAMENCO FOR ALL amateur dance group performing between the different speeches. The group danced Guajiras, Alegrias, Bulerias and the very popular Sevillanas. Lucy Steward, a youngster with Downs Syndrome performed a solo dance and is a shining example how the art of Flamenco has transformed her life, winning many competitions, wowing the audiences
and proving what can be achieved.
Guest Artist was Irene Martinez, from San Pedro del Pinatar, who is only 11 years old but already a very accomplished dancer, she has been performing since she is 5 years old with Raquel Peña's professional Flamenco Dance Company and danced two solos and a zapateado without music that brought the house down.
