5th Anniversary Club Torrevieja Classics and specialist cars
Now that the summer recess is over the Club Torrevieja Classics & Specialists Car Club has been active with three events in as many weeks.
Wednesday the 5th was the Annual General Meeting at our base 'The Cafeteria Marina Club'. It was attended by 24 members who all agreed that the club had had a very good year and were only too pleased to re-elect the current working committee 'en block'. Keith Nicol stepped down as Vice President and was replaced by John Wallis. The only new suggestion was to include one or two 'weekend rallies' in the forthcoming years schedule of events.
On Sunday the 16th , thirteen cars met early at the Lo Monte Hotel for a long run to Jumilla for a visit to a bodega and to give the cars a good clean out. The bodega 'Casa de la Ermita' proved to be very interesting with a brief tour of the vine yard and explanation of all the different types of grapes and their qualities followed by a walk around the winery were the whole process was described, we ended up in the tasting room surrounded by some of the 4,000 oak barrels each containing 225 litres of wine. Of course we had to taste five of these very high quality wines most of which are exported around the world , with Waitrose, Oddbins and M & S some well known outlets in the UK being a couple of the benefiters.
After an hour or so at the bodega we made our way to the 'Meson de Maria' Restaurant a few kilometres down the road for and excellent menu del dia. All the cars then left in convoy for the return journey. In total we covered 260 kilometres without any mechanical problems, which is a great credit to the owners and the way they look after these 'Old girls'.
Sunday the 23rd was the 5th Anniversary Dinner with a 7.30 pm reception at the Marina Club attended by 55 members and their guests, which was followed at 8.30 by a fine 4 course meal at the 'Veni Vidi Vici' Restaurant in the International Marina in Torrevieja. At a very convenient break between courses the members took the opportunity to express their thanks to the President , Ron Blackwell, the secretary Gaynor Hall and treasurer Joe Pesce for their work over the past year, and the Club trophies were presented to Heiko Schmitt – most valued member, Gaynor Hall – Hand of Friendship and the Trabant Trophy to Vincent Anson. Once again a very enjoyable evening was had by all.
