Summer school for disabled children

The Summer school named “Caballito de mar” (sea horse) is offering leisure time workshops for children with special educational needs and with ages ranging from 4 up to 18 years old.

The Social Welfare Councillor, María Dolores Canales, has informed that the Torrevieja’s Council has started a Summer School for children with special educational needs. This way, they intend parents of disabled children have some spare time when their children will be receiving the appropriate attention they need.

This summer there are only 15 vacancies (a group), but next year the number of students is expected to increase due to the likeliness to succeed of this local initiative.

The registration term will end on the next July 18th and all forms must be submitted to the Council’s General Record located in the PROP Office (calle Bazán). In order to be able to apply for one of these 15 vacancies, the father/mother/guardian or legal representative of the child must be registered to be living in Torrevieja, the child shall count with a certificate proving his/her disability grade is higher than 33%, and he/she shall have been born between 1992 and 2005, both inclusive. The price of this summer school is 30 euros and 25 for large families.

The main contents of these workshops at the “Caballito de mar” summer school will be: psychomotor activities, table activities, interaction, relaxation, development and stimulation of language.
