The Torrevieja’s Alzheimer Association (AFA) receives a grant

The Torrevieja’s council has granted 90,000.00€ to cover all staff, workshop materials and maintenance expenses of this Association.

Since 2006, the Torrevieja’s council has collaborated with grants and with the assignment of a registered office for the Alzheimer Association, which started a schedule of activities in the city.

The group of persons suffering from Alzheimer requires a special attention, and in only 5 years, AFA Torrevieja has managed to develop a real and special compromise towards the Torrevieja’s society, becoming an essential support for everybody suffering from this illness as well as for their relatives.  

Tomás Ballester has thanked the Torrevieja’s council for the important grant it has given, amounting to 90,000.00€, in such a serious economic situation, a grant which covers the whole year 2010 and which will be assigned to staff, workshop materials and maintenance expenses of the association,  and he added “we could not survive without this local grant”.

The Association is developing following programs in its office:

-Home care programs offering specific physiotherapy and psychological aid.
-Physical Stimulation Program.
-Occupational Therapy Program.
-Behavioural Change Program.
-Psychological support program for relatives and carers of people suffering from Alzheimer, with self-assistance groups.
-Family Break Programs.
-Generations Merger Program.
-Personal Training and Growth Program.
-Refectory service.

To develop these programs, AFA TORREVIEJA counts nowadays with 15 employees and almost 50 volunteers.
