Two men arrested after mistreating a pony

The injuries suffered by the pony might cause the amputation of one of its legs.

The Orihuela’s Guardia Civil Nature Protection Service –SEPRONA- arrested on the 3rd of September  two men purported to have committed a mistreatment crime against animals. 

The Guardia Civil was informed an association protecting horses and ponys had received lately a pony presenting some serious injuries on its legs.

They started investigating and found out the animal arrived to this association thanks to the help of a British citizen, who watched the state the animal was left in a farm of Catral and took it with her to take care of the same. Seeing the injuries could not heal, she decided to take it to the association for it to recover.

According to the report of the association’s veterinary surgeon, the animal has got a serious injury in one of its legs, whose joints are quite damaged, and for that reason it might lose its leg.

The conditions in which the pony had arrived showed the owners were not aware about which cares these animals need to be kept healthy and in perfect conditions, either because they did not know how to do it or because they simply did not care.

Two Spanish men were arrested as the alleged perpetrators of crimes of mistreatment and abandonment of animals, and they were brought before the judge.
