The man arrested had broken open the alms boxes and caused damages amounting to 800 €.

At about 6.30 pm of last Tuesday 21st of September, the Torrevieja’s Guardia Civil was informed about a robbery being committed in a church of this town.

A Guardia Civil patrol went to the church, whose exists where sealed by the agents, four of whom entered the building.  

After checking the alms boxes had been forced open and that many damages had been caused, they started a thorough search through the church and, after 30 minutes, the alleged perpetrator was found rolled up into several carpets kept under a board located in a storage room just behind the Virgin’s altar.

When the burglar was found he tried to run away and to hit the agents with a stick, but they managed to overpower him without them being hurt.

A 23 year old man of Moldavian nationality was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a robbery crime and has been charged with damages.

Once they were at their station, and after the dactiloscopic test, they found out two robberies had been committed by the same man on the 29th of May 2010 right in the city centre.
