British TV off and on again

Thousands of homes suddenly found themselves without their English Language TV this week.

Thousands of homes from Cartagena to Alicante and inland to Elche and Crevillent suddenly found themselves without their English Language TV this week. The reason was simply that local TV provider ScanSat Network changed their encryption method and those without the correct viewing cards suddenly found blank screens in place of their normal crystal clear picture!

And while ScanSat have changed their encryption system to allow them to provide a better service, to upgrade their equipment and add additional channels as they become available, other local re-broadcasters have been receiving complaints and messages on forum sites about a loss of channels, primarily BBC1 and ITV, not a good sign over a busy weekend which featured Children in Need, Strictly Come Dancing and X-Factor and some of those offering VOIP solutions as a telephone service, losing signal during the heavy rain and storms over the weekend!

Over the years, the ScanSat signal has been ‘free-to-air’ for those with a basic knowledge of how to tune their receiver into their frequencies. Their new equipment and viewing cards, which are free, are now available for new and existing subscribers for €16.00 per month, a bit of a bargain to watch English Telly!
