Dolphin found dead in Torrevieja

Last Wednesday, a dead dolphin appeared in an advanced state of decomposition around the rocky area of Punta Margalla, Torrevieja.

After performing the first examination, Juan Antonio Pujol, a municipal biologist, indicated that the animal might have been dead for a week probably because of a morbillivirus, a kind of common glue in these animals. Furthermore, he indicated it would not be translated to Valencia due to the state it presented.

The dolphin, which was about 10 and 15 years old, weighed between 40 and 50Kg and was 1.68 metres long, could have been dragged by the storm waves to seaside.

Last Wednesday, many citizens and passers-by stopped to observe this animal which is typical of mild and tropical waters over the world and very common in the Mediterranean Sea.
