FC Torrevieja Lose again
CD Llosa 2-1 FC Torrevieja
FROM promotion contenders to mid-table ‘also-rans’, Saturday’s loss to lowly CD Llosa is starting to signal that all is not well in the FC Torrevieja camp! In 2012 Torry has gone from promotion contenders to a team unable to beat the relegation strugglers, from last Sunday's scoreless draw at home to the rock bottom club, to their latest defeat from lowly Llosa, who had lost their last four consecutive matches and sat one point above the relegation zone. Yet again the frustrating concern is that Torry dominated possession, created chance after chances, only to succumb to two set pieces and go home empty handed.
The week started badly for the Salinieros as the President of the club met with players on Monday evening to advise them that the subvention funding from the Town Hall was being cut and that they would have to manage with reduced wages for the remainder of the season. They were also told that should they have an offer from another club, then they would be allowed to leave without obstacle. On Tuesday Nico departed for the Murcian 3rd division, then on Wednesday leading club goal scorer Petu was signed by rivals Catarroja. As one of Torrevieja’s few bight sparks, Petu scored on his debut in Catarroja's 2-1 win over Castellon, putting them back at the top of the table and adding further wows to coach Carimio’s task to try and turn the club around once again.
Torry starting brightly at Llosa as per their norm and immediately set up chances through the skill of Carrasco and Juande. The best chance fell to Victor, preferred to Corcoles as the lone striker, who looked in disbelief as his shot hit the post with the Llosa keeper completely beaten. Almost thirty minutes had passed before Llosa were able to launch an attack on the Torry goal, which Mendez dealt with ease. Torry's chances were seemingly enhanced just before the half hour mark when Soler was dismissed from the field of play for a second cautionable offence, yet again for felling the tricky Juande.
However, Torry were not so fortunate on 38 minutes when Llosa were awarded a sham free kick directly in front of goal, just five yards outside the penalty area. Malloi struck the ball firmly, clearing the wall, hitting the post and nestling in the back of the net. Torry were stunned, but on the balance of play they were confident of creating plenty more chances and turning the game around. At half time the hosts lead 1-0, but were likely to have their backs to the wall for the second forty five!
That is exactly how it panned out, with Casimiro pushing forward with Corella replacing Burgullios on 50 minutes and Llosa penned back in their own half, with Mendez in the Torry goal a mere spectator. On 56 minutes Carrasco picked up a yellow card for a foul on his opponent, then six minutes later Corcoles replaced Ramiro who as usual had worked his socks off down the flank. Prior then picked up a caution as Torry blasted the Llosa goal from every angle but with no penetration.
Llosa made a quick and rare counter attack on 77 minutes and were rewarded with a free kick left side of goal. Adrian stepped up and popped the ball directly into the goal to give Llosa an unlikely two goal advantage. Immediately Torry played their last card with Manu replacing Vicente Boix and they continued to bombard the Llosa goal. Substitute Corella slotted the ball home on 89 minutes to reduce the deficit and Torry tried in vain to find the equaliser their efforts warranted with Corella again going close in the 92 minute, following a pin point cross from Manu. Then in the 94 minute Corcoles, was handed a gilt edged chance in the six yard box but headed over the bar! Two games and three missed golden chances for the team’s aging captain is not going down well with many of the supporters!
Torry's day was complete when Carrasco was given his second caution, guilty in the referee's eyes of trying to win a penalty when no foul was committed on him. Not only was he dismissed, but he now misses Torry's next home game, this Sunday at The Vicente Garcia against Eldense, with a 5.00pm kick off. Carrasco was caution last weekend against JBC for exactly the same offence!
Team: Mendez, Vicente Boix, (Manu 78) Burguillos,(Corella 50), Diego Meijide, Vidal, Abel, Prior, Ramiroa (Corcoles 62), Carrasco, Juande, Victor
