Lend me your eyes
the project it´s a work full of sensitivity and generosity, which has supported with enthusiasm from the beginning.
BACK IN the days of the audiocassette, when tape was king and the CD was not even though of, the likes of the Lions Club, Ladies Circle, and Round Table in the UK had a program of recording the highlights of the week’s local newspaper for those with poor sight or that were blind, simply called ‘Newspapers for the Blind’ and ‘Talking Newspapers’. This week, along those same lines, a new project called ‘Préstame tus ojos’ or ‘Lend Me Your Eyes’ was announced by Luis Maria Pizana the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Tomás Ballester from Welfare and Equality, accompanied by the Director of ‘Préstame tus ojos’ Fernando Guardiola with coordinating officers Carmen Muñoz and Isabel Restrepo.
Luis Maria Pizana defined the project as a work full of sensitivity and generosity, which has supported with enthusiasm from the beginning. "Lend me your eyes" is a reading project supported by the Departments of Culture and Welfare with the collaboration of the Reading Club "Ambigú" of the Municipal Library. The idea comes from Isabel Cristina Retrespo, a member of the Reading Club and is a means to bring culture, namely the reading of books, magazines and newspapers, to those who do not have the gift of sight for different reasons, either through blindness, because they cannot read or
simply because of age. To do this, as explained by Fernando Guardiola, “volunteers go to schools or homes to read a book, newspaper etc .”
Carmen Muñoz, City Librarian and Coordinator said the requirements to join as a project volunteer is to be 18 years old, have a Municipal Library membership card, be registered for this activity in the Library, and complete the registration form. Visiting hours will be adjusted according to availability and demand for both parties. Tomás Ballester said he was very satisfied that this type of service was to be offered, especially for the sick and elderly. Director Guardiola thanked the departments involved, volunteers and recipients, and Marina International as special patron and the painter Victor Garcia for donating the Oil of the eyes that make up the posters.
