The project idea is to create a barrier-free building with proper architectural intervention on accessibility in all venues and outdoor spaces, energy efficient solar energy for all hot water facilities and even roof gardens

Work on Torrevieja’s new residence for the mentally and physical handicapped is well underway and last week was visited members of the Town Council and Construction team, to find out for themselves the progress made on the building. Located at Avenida Delfina Viudes, next to Habaneras Public School number 10 and opposite the Water Park, the impressive building is being constructed on a municipal plot of 11,152 square meters, which is being build by Guifersol SL for an investment of €4,630,712.

The public infrastructure will be unique in the Vega Baja. It can accommodate 88 people with disabilities that, due to the modular nature of construction, can be expanded to 126 users if required.  The Residence is a single building with two distinct pavilions with
28 double and 32 single rooms and consists of the Residential Module Facilities, Administrative and Health Module, Module for Multiple Use which consists of gym, pool access, toilets plus an auditorium and audiovisual room.

On Friday, the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by Councillors Tomás Ballester, Javier Montoro, Mamen Mateo, Inmaculada Montesinos and representatives of various NGOs in the locality as ALPE, APANEE and AFA all visited the Residence for physically and mentally disabled, which is in an advanced stage. Eduardo Dolon expected it to open in early 2012 and emphasized the broad scope of this work will be a very important step for the quality of life for people with disabilities who reside in it, and for all their families.

The project idea is to create a barrier-free building with proper architectural intervention on accessibility in all venues and outdoor spaces, energy efficient solar energy for all hot water facilities and even roof gardens, allowing residents more space inside for greater comfort and the building benefiting through better insulation in winter
and summer. The whole building is surrounded by vegetation so as to avoid direct contact with the outside and avoid the disruption the patient while the roof garden is designed to a place of serenity and peace for their therapy and privacy.
