Pilgrimage of El Rocio in Torrevieja

Saturday June 12 was a day full of activity in the centre of Torrevieja but none was more colourful nor emblematic than that of the Pilgrimage of El Rocio.

The festivities started at 10:00 am when the caravan of horses, bulls puling carts and followers, journeyed from La Estacion to Inmaculada Concepción Church where a Mass was officiated by Pastor D. Manuel Rocamora along with music from the choir of the Association Rociero Virgen del Rocío. After Mass, the caravan paraded through the streets as hundreds of spectators enjoyed the scene

The procession made their way to the Ferris area beside Punta Prima on Torrevieja’s seafront and in the afternoon, after a substantial meal, there were equestrian activities, gymkhana, ribbons, races, games for children and performances by the dance schools Agustina Estevez and Maria Dolores Morales plus the dancer Marisa Carro.

The festivities continued on well into the night and throughout Sunday bringing more than a little colour and music to the city centre that was enjoyed by all in the know or who happened to stumble upon the Saturday processions.
