Project ARCE visits Torrevieja

Torrevieja participates in the educational proyect near maple schools of Murcia,Moron de la Frontera and Tenerife.

The origin of the MAPLE project is to encourage and promote student / as educational and recreational value of traditional sports and games.

Most of us have never heard of ARCE however it’s an important item when it comes to the sports and games education in the city of Torrevieja and surrounding region. For thios reason, last week the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, together with the Councillor for Education, Daniel Plaza met with  participating students in the ARCE project from Murcia, Morón de la Frontera and Tenerife, accompanied by IES Director of the Mare Nostrum of Torrevieja, Rafael Gil, the local school involved in the initiative, and three professors in the Department of Physical Education (Abel Moya, Abel Perez and David Rodríguez). Over several days, the visiting students have been able to enjoy nature, Torrevieja’s extraordinarily good November weather and visit the most significant sights in the city, its parks, its fishing tradition and, of course, salt.

The ARCE project is a program of research and innovation for years 3 and 4 of the ESO (secondary schools) that aims to preserve the games and popular sports of the four regions currently participating: IES Abanilla (Murcia) IES Fuente Nueva (Morón de la Frontera) IES Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) IES Mare Nostrum (Torrevieja) and in turn, spread the information to others.

During the past year the four schools participated I the project in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) and this year was the turn of Torrevieja. All participating students enjoyed the traditional sports of Sailing Vela Latina at the port of Torrevieja and also travelled to Valencia to visit the former America’s Cup location and visit the regions capital. About 75 students and teachers moved to Torrevieja to participate in this project in which IES Mare Nostrum has been participating for two consecutive years. An initiative planned by the Ministry of Education under the name "The information technology and communication and education networks as a means of distributing our games and popular sports and traditional" intends to apply the new technologies of information and communication as an educational tool development of popular sports and games and Traditional didactic units multimedia, PowerPoint presentations, video and imaging webquest by students and teachers. All work performed on the project is available at www.nuestrosjuegostradicionales.es.
