Rascals raise 100k for charities
This association was founded in 1984 with the objective of raising funds for charities through music and dance concerts and raffles among its members.
One Hundred Thousand Euros. Yes, 100,000 euros is the amount that local performance group The Rascals have unselfishly raised over the last 16 years for many different charities and causes both locally on the Costa Blanca and for disaster relief abroad. On Wednesday June 16 the Rascals put on a special matinee performance to celebrate their achievement and which has benefited such local charities as HELP, Age Concern, APANEE, Red Cross, ALPE (including their annual Christmas party where they give gifts to all the students), Alzheimer's Association Torrevieja (Torrevieja AFA),AECC, Animal Charities and disaster relief among others.
On hand to help celebrate were Graham Knight and Pedro Valero from the Torrevieja Town Hall, representatives of many of the local Charities and supporters of The Rascals. Pedro Valero, the Councilor for Foreigners said that he disliked the expression ‘foreigners’ as the rascals and thousands of others have made Torrevieja their home and he thinks about everyone fondly as “people born in other places!” He praised the sterling work performed by the group and wished them every success for the future.
This association was founded in 1984 with the objective of raising funds for charities through music and dance concerts and raffles among its members. In their early years, they performed in the n the streets of the urbanization of La Siesta, performing for the first time in Torrevieja Municipal Auditorium in 2004, as part of the Cultural Program. The Rascals give 100% of their ticket sales towards charity, relying on other donations, and sponsorship from such supporters as The Halifax, to help with costumes, scenery, music and incidental expenses, to keep the shows on the road.
The Rascals are one of the most prominent groups in Torrevieja, put on a different show each year, plus a Christmas Show and special events but with an average age somewhere, allegedly, in the late sixties, they are always on the lookout for anyone interested in helping out, raising funds, working backstage or joining the ranks and singing and dancing on stage. If you’ve got what it takes, please contact any of the members at one of their shows.
