Salineros achieve play off spot, heroes to a man

Futbol Club Torrevieja won a thrilling local derby against Alone Guardamar, 3-1 and gained a spot in the play offs for promotion from the Tercera into 2B.

They were a goal down in the first few minutes but a stirring second half performance set the home crowd in raptures. Nico, the hero of the hour, came on in the second half to score twice – Ontinyent and Novelda both dropped points, pushing the Salineros into third place just a couple of points behind Villareal B.

After a very poor patch of eight games in which they gained only 7 points, Torre finished strongly to win their last three games on the bounce under new manager, Paco Pliego, totally justifying his appointment.

It was quite a night. You could have been forgiven for thinking we had just won the World Cup! Brian Heard 28/05/07
