SIMULATION OF A COLLISION BETWEEN AN OIL TANKER AND A FISHING BOAT
In this simulation will take part a big number of human and technical resources
This simulation will be on Friday, the 23rd of March, at 09:00a.m., at the "Los Naufragos" beach. It will be based on a sea collision between an oil tanker and a fishing boat, which will simulate an oil spillage, this being represented by pop-corn. It has been chosen the pop-corn as the spillage material because it does not pollute and its drift is similar to the oil. Also, pop-corn is organic substance which will become food to fish. This experience with pop-corn was already used in Denmark, about a year ago, where a similar simulation was made.
The aim is to learn how to react in case of a disaster of sea pollution. Agents of the Red Cross, emergency number 112, Local Police, Guardia Civil, Firebrigade, City cleaning service, Marine Rescue Brigade, The green brigade, Marine Captaincy and the Internal Affaires Minister as well as the Nautical Club and the Local Fishermen Association, they all will participate in this simulation which will take place at 14 miles off the coast at the Nafragos beach.
This kind of actions are very spectacular but also very useful in order to prevent future risks. It is important to be far-sighted to know how to act in case of a disaster of this kind which may happen on our seashore.
