THE MORENA SCHOONER, CAM SCHOOL SHIP, IN TORREVIEJA.
Last Sunday the -Morena- schooner, school ship of CAM, arrived to the Torrevieja harbour.
Last Sunday the "Morena" schooner, school ship of CAM (Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo), arrived to the Torrevieja harbour. It will be docked alongside the S-61 "Delfín" submarine all along the month of August and all people will be able to visit it thanks to the program "Open your eyes to the sea" included in the CAM social work.The stunning schooner was built in the year 1951 and is 31 metres of length, 7 metres of breadth and 2,8 metres of draught. A skipper, a mechanic and a sailor make up the "Morena" crew.
The visiting hours will be from 18:00 to 01:00 being the entrance totally free. While staying in Torrevieja, the schooner will make sailing trips around the city bay.
The schooner "Morena" has already visited important harbours of the Mediterranean shore like Barcelona, Vinaroz, Castellón, Gandía, Denia, Cartagena and Aguilas.
The Culture councillor has pointed out that the Torrevieja council intends to turn this area of the harbour into a tourist and cultural reference for the city : beside the schooner, tourists will be able to visit the S-61 "Delfín" submarine, which has counted more than 140.000 visits since its May, 2004 official opening.
