This act of cult is full of devotion, fervour and thanksgiving.

The “novena” is a liturgical event which is celebrated in Torrevieja during nine days, those ones right after the celebration of the Immaculate Conception day (the 8th of December), from the 9th until the 17th of December. This cult is about saying the Rosary and the Litanies to the Virgin, together to some reflections about the role of Maria in the History of the eternal salvation. These prays are said before the celebration of the Holy mass, and obviously it will affect the most on the homily represented in the figure of the Immaculate Conception.

This act of cult is full of devotion, fervour and thanksgiving. It is extraordinary and exclusively sang by the archpriest’ choir of the Immaculate Conception, conducted by Maribel Vallejos Planelles and playing the organ Carmen Garcia. The last day of this “novena”, an ancient and traditional goodbye chant and the “Salve” is played and sung. This chant puts the end to the festivities. But during the celebration of the “novena” in this last day, there is also a peculiar and symbolic touching to the figure of the Patron Saint of the city of Torrevieja, the Immaculate Conception.

Local associations, groups and entities take part in the celebration of the Eucharist during these nine days. They all give their contribution to people in need by putting food over the Altar of the church, and this food will be shared out to the needy families at Christmas.
