Thunderbirds and Lighting at Noche del Coche
An evening of anticipation and excitement became a slightly drowned affair as May’s Noche del Coche was greeted with Thunder and Lightning and small rivers running through some of Torrevieja’s streets.
Despite the downpour, a dozen cars and around fifty spectators braved the weather and headed down to the Marina Salinas to see if anyone else would show up! Sadly, the rain put off such scheduled cars as a tricked out Mustang, a Smokie and the Bandit Trans Am, a couple of Corvettes, a Ferrari, a Thunderbird and a Rolls Royce plus the Tuning fraternity, although many of the owners did come in their everyday car to enjoy a bit of banter with fellow participants. Those that showed their resolve despite the rain included a race prepared Anglia, or a ‘Spanglia’ as the owner described it, Ford RS Turbo, Mercedes 500 SL, two Mazda MX5’s, Land Rover, Fiat Barchetta, Ford Mustang, Z28 Camaro and an award winning Chrysler 300c Hemi, with Lambo Doors and an exhaust note to die for!
The next Torrevieja event is on June 25 at the Marina Salinas, when it hoped to go on a short ‘cruise’ through Town to a second location at around 2130. Being the longest Friday night in the year, it’s a perfect time to do so. More information on this regular, last Friday in the Month car event, can be found at www.NocheDelCoche.com or by calling Nick on 609063614 (say you cal refered by Torrevieja.com). Other future events include Movie nights, trivia evenings, classic car show and a Midnight Cruise.
For those that live more inland, a second event has been planned for Friday June 11th. It’s all happening just outside Orihuela beside Emy’s Café on the main street in Redovan, close to the ITV station. Cars are expected there for 2000 hrs for another gathering of petrol heads. For more information about the Redovan event, please contact Roger on 966 754 126 (say you cal refered by Torrevieja.com).
