Torrevieja’s third sports pavilion to open in November

The building has an area of 1,850 square meters with a vertical garden, designed to join the new pavilion to the Cecilio Gallego, to go out to tender in the next few days.

Torrevieja’s enviable reputation for having one of the Valencian Community’s best sports facilities received a further boost last week; first with the announcement that new plans are to be drawn up for a Residential Centre for Elite Performance Athletes and also that the first phase of Torrevieja’s third Municipal Gymnasium will be opening next month. The new pavilion is located on the former tennis courts beside the ‘Cecilio Gallego’ (with the blue roof) and behind the Palacio de los Deportes "Infanta Cristina", which also has an Olympic size heated pool.

Last week, Torrevieja’s Mayor Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Daniel Plaza, and Councillor of Infrastructure and Procurement, Javier Montoro, visited the new Multipurpose Sports Hall, whose first phase should be completed during the month of November. The building has an area of 1,850 square meters and an operating budget of  €1,110,475, with a vertical garden, designed to join the new pavilion to the Cecilio Gallego, to go out to tender in the next few days.

The pavilion has two floors, three multipurpose rooms of over 200 square meters each, and one of 400 square meters that can be extended to 700 square meters, designed specifically for rhythmic gymnastics, a discipline that Torrevieja has excelled in over the years. The smaller rooms are for sports such as judo, martial arts, body-combat and other more relaxed but active activities like yoga, palates, tai chi and gymnastics.

The multipurpose hall will also have a physical therapy clinic, offices for the Department of Sports, dressing rooms, clothing store plus facilities for monitors and equipment. Eduardo Dolon said that he is “very pleased with the originality of this new multipurpose hall, which will allow more than 4,000 people to enjoy activates here on a monthly basis.”
