The Local Police of Torrevieja report owners of the car where the dog had been left under conditions which put his life at severe risk.

15:45 p.m. last Sunday, the local police of Torrevieja receives a phone call telling of a dog inside a car showing obvious suffocating signs. The car was parked at the Playa de los Locos area, at the Echegaray Street crossing the Roentgen Street. One of the two police agents who came to place, proceed to open the door car with a sort of wire not to break the car windows. Once opened the car, the agents took the dog out of it that was showing advanced suffocating signs, throwing foam from his mouth, though thanks to the cooperation of the present neighbours who threw water onto the dog to get his temperature down, the dog could be almost taken out of dying danger.

Immediately after, the agents took the Husky breed dog to a local vet where the suffocating dog was attended after having had to open the clinic at the police request. The dog was absolutely dehydrated due to the high temperature he had to suffer inside the car, parked in the sun, for more then two hours. The vet’s report certified a severe hypothermia of more than 42 ºC and after having been treated at the vet’s where his temperature could be cooled down to 38,9ºC, the dog had to be admitted immediately after in state of comatose at the San Antón Clinic in Guardamar del Segura in a very severe condition.

Later on, the police agents found the owners of the car, a middle age couple, in order to identify them and inform them of the fact, as well as to take the judicial steps at the Court of Torrevieja for offence of abandon of an animal putting his own safety at severe risk.

I am SO happy that the Police saved this POOR dog and are taking steps to prosecute the owners. What wicked, stupid people. I LOVE living part time in Spain but, as an animal lover, it upsets me terribly that animal welfare does not appear to have the same priority as it does in the UK, so this rescue restores my faith in Spain and its Policia :-) I, myself, 'dog-sat' a gorgeous little mongrel in June, when her owner left her and another dog in a van in our road while she attended the doctor's surgery. She had left them water and a window open and did, I now know, care for them, but she was SO naive in believing it was safe to leave the dogs. I marched into the reception area and asked the German receptionist to relay my message; the lady owner immediately jumped up looking worried and we proceeded to have a conversation in our best Spanish and I took one dog to my garden. I still worried about the other but thankfully all was well. OWNERS PLEASE USE YOUR BRAINS!! Thanks :-)

I make comment on two things: my horror at anyone leaving an animal in a car in summer heat!
It doesn´t take brains to know the dog will suffer. But it does shows lack of heart and love. Disgraceful.
My second issue is with the grammer of the report. It is obvious that whoever wrote the item is untrained in journalism and writing. Written in colloquial street-speak it jarred my every nerve. But thanks for highlighting this issue.
