Torrevieja pulled out all the stops and the majority of the municipal council and delegates where at the show for meetings with tourism partners and central government officials from Madrid, not forgetting the tens of thousands of visitors who came to the show to find out more for themselves.

Torrevieja played a major role on the Costa Blanca Stand and FITUR was used as the major launching pad to announce a couple of new initiatives and products. One new promotion was the Torrevieja Nautical Experience. On hand was the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, along with Deputy of Provincial Tourism, Joaquín Albaladejo, President of the Real Club Nautico de Torrevieja (RCNT) Germain Soler, Vice President of Marina International Fernando del Rio and the director of the Port Deportivo Marina Salinas, Jose Antonio Santacruz. They where there to show their unity in the new public-private partnership that involves a total of 10 local nautical businesses, including the three marinas in Torrevieja.

Dolon announced that this new initiative will eventually offer more than 30 different products, that have been structured according to cost, the season in which can be practiced and the facilities. Eduardo Dolon stressed that these products facilitate consumer access to nautical tourism products including intensive nautical courses, scuba diving, sailing, motor sports, swimming, rowing, waterskiing, fishing competitions and others, all activities of which Dolon said “all of them are very attractive for the potential tourist market of our city.”

During the week the Costa Blanca stand was also visited by the President of the Generalitat, Alberto Fabra, the Councillor for Tourism, Lola Johnson, and the presidents of the provincial councils. Alberto Fabra visited every one of the stands that make up the Valencian Community including the Costa Blanca, where he met with the President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Luis Pastor, and Deputy of Tourism, Joaquín Albaladejo, Torrevieja’s Mayor, Eduardo Dolon and Councillor for Tourism, Luis Maria Pizana.

Another important announcement was that of Torrevieja first Four Star Hotel and Spa opening this year, in Los Balcones, Hotel Spa Doña Monse. Located at the entrance to Torrevieja and a short distance from the motorway, the hotel has experienced times of stopping and starting its construction process but the new 70 room hotel is now on track to hopefully open in time for Easter and the Semana Santa processions.
