Torrevieja receive grants for new downtown pedestrian areas

Valencian community grants subsity to Torrevieja for pedestrian improvements

Last week, the mayor of Torrevieja, Pedro Hernandez Mateo, announced that the Conselleria de Administraciones Públicas de la Generalitat Valenciana has awarded the City council an important subsidy of 1.500.000 Euros for work on the pedestrian streets of Calles Canónigo Torres y Fotógrafo Darblade. This is the final investment for the pedestrian area in downtown Torrevieja and amounts overall to 2.203.942 Euros being spent on the upgrading of downtown.

Mateo noted that the work carried out on these and other central streets have also included an upgrading of such facilities as cleaning, garbage disposal, potable water, gas reserves, public lighting system, telephony and TV, Palm Trees, public seating, irrigation and special unloading bays for both disabled and delivery drivers.

Work started on remodelling the Town Centre in November 2008 and continues on other streets around the Town Square, with more works planned for the future. Outside the Town Centre, work on the new sports facilities are well under way with the first phase at an advanced stage with includes new stadium seating for the artificial pitches, the new rugby field with seating for 3,000, Cricket Pitch, tennis, paddle tennis and basketball courts plus two seven-a-side football pitches. It is hoped that work on this phase finished around Easter 2010
