Virgen del Rocío Pilgrimage (Romería)

Schedule of activities by the Torrevieja’s “Virgen del Rocío” Association.June 10, at 8.30pm: the Santísima Virgen del Rocío is taken by the bearers from the San Roque and Santa Ana’s church to the Inmaculada’s church and will be accompanied by the Association’s choir.
June 12, from 9.30am: gathering of horse riders, carriages and coaches at the Plaza de la Estación.
At 10am they will depart and walk through the town towards the Inmaculada’s church, where a holy mass will be celebrated. The mass will be sung by the Association’s choir, which will be accompanied by the Almonte drummers.
Later on, they will depart in pilgrimage through the streets of Torrevieja up to the San Roque and Santa Ana’s church, where a short lunch will be offered, and they will keep on up to the Ferris spot, where they will camp.
They will arrive at Ferris at about 2.30pm and there, the Virgin will be deposited at a marquee-sanctuary, where she will receive flowers and candles offerings.
In the afternoon there will be activities for children, equestrian activities (gymkhana, ribbons race…), and dance exhibitions by collaborating academies.
Sunday, June 13, at 8am: the traditional “despertá” to the honour of the Reina de las Marismas (the Queen of Marsh) by the Almonte drummers and pilgrims.
At 12pm, Holy Campaña Mass, and at 7pm, all people participating will depart from Ferris accompanying the Santísima Virgen del Rocío up to the San Roque and Santa Ana’s church, where they will sing the Salve as the finale to the Romería 2010.

felt in La marina too - woke up a few people, very loud bang heard too which may or may not be related
woke up & Heard the sutters rattle at 5.45, no damage in Playa flamenca...
felt the quake at about 5.45 0r thereabouts followed by a huge bang which we and the other nearby residents were unsure about being related ...
