JUST BRASS Under the directorship of Gordon Higgenbotham, “JUST BRASS” is a concert band with a wide repertoire that includes traditional band music, ShowTime songs, a sprinkling of jazz and classical renditions. Gordon is a renowned and accomplished musician and composes and arranges some of the band’s music. The aim of the band is to play music that entertains. This was seen when the band played earlier in the year at the Virgen del Carmen Centre, notable not only for the high standard and quality of the music, but for the humour of the band members who obviously enjoy what they do. DAVID MORRIS: (Whistling World Champion 2003. Champion cornet player of Great Britain 1975.) WHAT THEY SAY - - “An extraordinary talent. A lot of orchestral musicians would die for a technique like that!” – General manager of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. - “The amazing talent of David Morris.” – Frank Renton, BBC Radio 2. - “He’s wicked, really good.” – Des O’Connor and Melanie Sykes, ITV. - “Amazing, brilliant, he’s the best.” – Chris Evans, BBC Radio 2. David Morris’s roots lie in playing the cornet from the tender age of thirteen. He has performed with, and directed some of the U.K.’s top brass bands and, in 1975, he was acclaimed as the ‘Champion Cornet Player of Great Britain’. However, long before his lips touched brass, his amazing whistling talent was discovered by his music teacher who noticed his perfect pitch and great style. Initially, whistling was David’s ‘party piece’ but soon, a wider demand for his incredible talent manifested itself. David was soon in demand to front brass bands, orchestras and offer solo performances and his first C.D. “Whistle Down the Wind” became an immediate success. After winning the title of ‘World Champion Whistler’ during the 2003 finals in the United States of America, he recorded his second album, “World Champion Whistling” backed by the Scottish Coop Band. His unique talent has graced the stages of several prestigious venues throughout the U.S.A., New Zealand, Ireland and Malta and will soon be heard in Torrevieja’s (Spain) municipal theatre. His many performances in Great Britain have inevitably, been well received and include a huge number of radio and television appearances up and down the country. Recently, he has performed together with the BBC Concert Orchestra on Radio 2’s “Friday Night is Music Night”, with the RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin, Ireland and o ‘live’ on BBC radio’s ‘Drive Time Show’ with Chris Evans. KEITH MONK.(pianist). Versatile and amiable pianist, Keith Monk, has a wealth of musical experience gained both aas an accomlished soloist touring the world over, as a band leader or as musical director accompanying some of Britain’s most famous singing stars. From classical to rock, from ‘pop’ to jazz, Keith’s talents have been in constant demand for, perhaps more years than he would care to remember! His vast experience has been called upon to train some of today’s young musicians through his workshops and classes for the Devon Youth Orchestra. He has been both teacher and musical director to Youth Jazz Orchestras throughout the United Kingdom. During the ‘swinging 60’s’, Keith Monk could be regularly seen on the U.K. stage accompanying such household names as Frankie Vaughan, Roy Castle, The Platters, Gene Pitney, Englebert Humperdink or Matt Monroe. He was personal musical director for the Dallas Boys as well as Craig Douglas. During this phase of his extensive musical career, Keith performed in such prestigious venues as the London Palladium, Grand Theate, Leeds, the Royal Albert Hall in London or the NEC, Birmingham when he was M.D. for the Miss Great Britain pageant. As an individual pianist, Keith Monk’s talents have been in demand in some of the world’s leading hotels, especially in Europe, Asia and South Africa. His television appearances include the major U.K. networks (BBC and ITV) on such programmes as ‘Pebble Mill at One’ or ‘Wish you were here’. (‘Keith Monk and his Music’. More recently and before making the move to Spain’s Costa Blanca, Keith’s talent was in demand as a teacher of music and as conductor for several youth choirs and orchestral ensembles.
