Holy Week Museum 'Tomás Valcárcel'
Calle Formentera. Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, mornings from 10.00 to 13.00 hrs and evenings from 16.00 to 19.00 hrs.
This was created in 1992 and is run by the central committee of the Holy Week brotherhoods. Inside we can see - throughout the year except during Holy Week itself - all the heritage of the Passion processions, with statues, thrones, standards with artisan embroidery, displays of sculptures, paintings and other objects. It is named after one of Torrevieja s most multi-faceted artists, Tomás Valcárcel Deza, who donated to the museum the small-scale replica of the statue of Torrevieja's patron saint la Purisima Concepcion (Antonio Castillo Lastrucci, 1947).We can also see another replica of the patron saint that was for meany years in Barcelona with the Brotherhood of Absent Torrevejenses (Hnos Blanco López, 1957). The museum is closed to the public for the weeks prior to the Easter celebration.
