A common topic is the apparent laziness of Brits in not learning the language of their host country. It reminds me of the joke:
Q. What do you call a person who speaks several languages?
A. Multi-lingual
Q. What do you call a person who speaks two languages?
A. Bi-lingual
Q. What do you call a person who speaks just one language?
A. British
Humour aside; is there a need to? Most of my circle agree that it would be a wonderful thing to learn Spanish; they are positive. Sadly there simply isn't a need. When they try practicing the Spanish (bless them) reply in English. There simply isn't the incentive to do so unless you're like my ex-mother in law. She learned French as a hobby; without any intention of ever putting it to use.
As another friend said: "If you moved to Llandudno would you learn Welsh?"
