I heard a rumour that villamartin golf course might give way to house building, anyone else heard this ?

Hi there
We live on Bosque De Las Lomas Fase 1, and we have been hearing this rumour ever since we bought in 2001!!!
Whilst I am not a golfer, I have been told by people who play, that Villamartin has been sadly neglected both on the fairways/greens and the clubhouse/restaurant, all looking very tired and sad.
If they do build on it I'll be able to walk on rooftops from my place to the beach!!
I think that the developers are having a hard enough time trying to sell the properties that are being built now!! let alone building more, but having said that it hasn't stopped them in the past has it?
Be interested to hear from anyone else on the subject
Regards

Sadly all of the amenities at Villamartin appear tired and neglected, especially the Plaza (considering the amount of money that must pour through it).
There's plenty of land around Villamartin for building on without having to resort to digging up the golf course. Also without the golf course the area would be less of a draw to prospective buyers. I'd be surprised if the rumour is true.

When I bought in Playa Flamenca seven years ago the nearest bar was in VillaMartin but when all the urbanisations developed VillaMartin became surplus to requirements. It always was a sad place with golfers playing the courses and spending their other time without seeing Spain. It was always going downhill.

20 years ago Villa Martin was the in place to go to, Cabo Roig was on its own between VM and Torrevieja.

Building on Villmartin
Getting back to the original thread I agree with Doc - many of the amenities at Villamartin do now appear tired and neglected, especially the Plaza. Dont forget that unlike most of the developments in the Torrevieja/Orihuela Costa area, parts of Villamartin have been around for 30 years+ so it is understandable that they are beginning to look "tired". I understand that the local Community have it in hand to spruce the Plaza up a bit which, if you compare this with other new Commercial Centres, it still has character rather than resembling yet another concrete Shopping Mall. Also the Villamartin Golf club have spent a significant amount on filling in the little-used swimming pools at the rear and replacing them with landscaped gardens so they too have started a refurbishment program.
Digging up the golf course is certainly NOT the answer - there is enough building in the area already and without the golf course the area would be in danger of becoming just another concrete jungle, which when I bought in VM back in 2001 I was anxious to avoid. I agree with Doc again - VM would be less of a draw to prospective buyers and would attract far less all year round visitors.
As for the "real Spain" comments ( to be found in Playa Flamenca apparently) I think the feedback so far has been great. Obviously the whole Torrevieja area has expanded dramatically in the last 20 years and there are now lots of different choices of shops, restaurants, bars and other ameneties to satisfy all tastes - and for "real Spain" then just get in your car and drive a short distance..... it is still there!
I, like many others, have been very happy with my purchase in Villamartin and have no regrets. I would be very sorry if , through greed, Villamartin golf course is built upon - much better to put it back to Tour conditions and attract even more into the area which I hope the Villamartin Golf owners take note of.
