Thumbs up Helping out local folk with UK TV from Astra

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may have seen on the 2 Torrevieja forums, I’ve been helping out local UK folk get some English TV into their homes now that Telmicro has done the dirty on all of us.

I am not a professional satellite system installer, but I have installed quite a few systems for myself in the UK and Spain, my family and friends and now 4 families here in the Torrevieja area. My first system was a fully motorised 1.2 prime focus Procomm dish with a SCT Monterey receiver in Hampshire. Most systems since then have been of the fixed variety, specifically for Astra 2 at 28.2 deg East for Sky and Freesat.

The most recent system, for myself, was a 1.8 prime focus (Portuguese Famaval) dish with a Humax Foxsat HD receiver. You can see this installation on my solarium here - Holmes Family Home Page.

My career was one of mainframe computing and telecoms. I worked for IBM UK Ltd for 30 years and spent 4 years of that living in upstate New York and California. Following that, I went into Secondary School teaching, mainly Design Technology (metalwork and woodwork for those of us that new it that way) and ICT. In this period I also built a 59 ft canal boat, which you can see here – Holmes Family Home Page.

I foster dogs for local charities, the latest of which you can view here - Holmes Family Home Page. If you would like her, she is still available. Contact details for the charity are on my website.

I also build my own PC’s and install the relevant Operating Systems and Applications.

Over the last week, I have helped out with 4 systems –

 La Siesta – 85cm offset focus (South Beam reception only)
 Los Balcones – 85cm offset focus (South Beam reception only)
 Benijofar – 1.8 m prime focus (Fortec Petal Dish) (Just about receives BBC1 and all South Beam channels)
 Rojales – 1.2 m offset focus (Receives BBC1/ITV1 and all South Beam channels

I do not supply any equipment but I’m more than willing to assist by mast/wall installation and of course, alignment and tuning in for equipment that you purchase yourselves. I can help advise on this if you wish. I am not running a business, it’s more of a hobby really but I expect reimbursement of diesel costs and something for my time.

You’re more than welcome to come around my house and see my installation and what channels can be achieved here. (I am about 1 km from the new Torrevieja Hospital on the CV 95).

Here’s a summary of the help I’ve been able to provide to UK folk since I started –

 La Siesta – 85cm offset focus dish, install and wire to existing cable to lounge (South Beam reception only)
 Los Balcones – 85cm offset focus dish, install and wire to existing cable to lounge (South Beam reception only)
 Benijofar – 1.8 m prime focus (Fortec Petal Dish) (Just about receives BBC1 and all South Beam channels)
 Rojales – 1.2 m good quality offset focus dish. Refocus dish (Receives BBC1/ITV1 for some of the time and all South Beam channels
 Blue Lagoon – 1.8 Famaval (Portuguese) prime focus dish. Install on solarium and wire into existing cable. BBC1/2 and ITV
 Bigastra – 1.4 prime focus dish, already installed on wall bracket. Renoved defective Dual LNB and installed Quad LNB. Connected 2 x to existing wiring and 1 x to next door neighbours existing cabling
 La Siesta – 85cm offset focus dish. Took home and proved working. Gave back to owner
 Blue Lagoon – Survey only and recommend dish size. Awaiting equipment
 Torrevieja – Existing 85cm wallmounted dish. Proved working with test receiver and recommended upgrade of dish size. Awaiting equipment
ï‚· Los Balcones - 1.8 Famaval (Portuguese) prime focus dish. Realign dish and set LNB skew. Capable of receiving BBC1/2 and ITV with the right receiver
