  • 3/4 day inspection trips

Any comments and recommendations please on which property company to use as they all offer these trips. We are considering using one to gain an initial view of the area, then if we like it, we'll go out and do our own thing. Comments previously have been appreciated ie - not to be pressurised and, of course, one would be limited on what we are taken to view but, as we've never been to southern Costa Blanca, we will be able to see Torrevieja, etc, and can make up our minds.

    Many thanks.

              2/3 day inspection visits

I would do things completely the other way round. If you know you like the area I would get a cheap flight and have a good drive around. If you come with a specific company they will only show you what they themselves have to offer and you will have little opportunity to spend time on your own.
As suggested on other post - approach the builder direct. my own view is that the benefits of going through an agent (eg finding a solicitor, arranging furniture etc) are MINIMAL and certainly not worth the mark up in price.
Also would suggest you do lots of homework first - read books, read posts about the area and look on the internet for property. You may see the same urbanisation for sale with different agents at different prices.
              Also consider a resale.

Would read other comments on this site re using solicitor recommended by agent, as many see that as a disadvantage not an advantage.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. Certainly different views on how to go about it. We decided early on to go for resale only - the new builds look very nice and seem good value but, we've decided against - not least as they are mainly inland. There appear to be plenty of resales all around the area, it's really now a case of getting out there (in June) and seeing for ourselves. Then we can pinpoint where we should seriously look for an apartment - then go out in the winter to see what it's like.

this site and others have been brilliant in getting us started in our 'quest' and all comments gratefully received.

                  Thanks.

                    organised trips

hi. We bought new build and completed oct 05 in la Zenia on the coastal side of the N332 so you can still get new build near the beach. We had visited the area a couple of times before but we chose to go on a trip with atlas for a couple of reasons a) cheap if you include flights and food and accomodation and car hire b) good that both of us could view without one driving c) we treated it as a bit of a break away from the kids. We would only recommend this route if you can keep your wits about you and not be persueded by the sales talk. we got loads of info about the area from the atlas couple who drove us around and if you keep asking questions and making sure they take you where you want to go they will do. We escaped at some points and copied down web addressess and phone numbers from other agents but generally sussed out the specific area we wanted - we would have missed if one of us was driving. It took 3 independant visits after that one of which was only for 24 hours from the uk at we were short of time and cash. we did try to bypass the agent when we found the site we wanted but the builder wouldnt sell direct. We did not buy from atlas (leave your cheque book at home!) and we used an independant soliciter and and independant translater at the notary office both of which were money well spent. Whichever way you do it buying remotely from the UK will cause problems and hassles. this forum and the people who respond are great at solving problems, and just looking at it often will stop problems occuring or give you warning. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks Phillipa - I think we will go out with an agent - no matter what is said about the various areas, we obviously must view ourselves and this seems to be the cheapest option. At the end we need a list of where we would like to be and then seriously look at what's available when we're in the position to buy and then go over again. This will not be for some time yet as we feel we must also see the area/s in winter which is when we would probably be 'popping' for breaks, with a view to let in the summer.

People have recommended many areas (some we can't find on the map!) there seems such a choice. We'll look at the Atlas site; there's also Masa International - we think we've gone off Iberian!

                      thanks again for the posting.

                        Hi,
Go out on a cheap inspection flight, enjoy their wonderful hospitality, see the area, have a lovely few days, and if you like it and think you would be interested in buying here, (dont buy from the company you are on the inspection trip with).
Go back to UK and then come and rent for 6 months to see if you would like to live here, if so, go for a resale, but make sure you have a good Spanish solicitor -or you could have problems -or go through a Spanish estate agent, either way you will save yourself Thousands of Euros.
We retired here over a year ago and we love it
                        Happy hunting
