  • Any cockroaches recently?

An unpleasant subjectmatter, but still...... They do exist!
What kind experiences you folks have in dealing with those lousy pests?
I guess there are basically three main ways of dealing with them: ignoring, straight-on nuclearattack-type, organic approach.
Any good suggestions would be welcomed! Needless to say - a few different means have been tested.
(Only of recently did them c........s start seriously bothering our house.)

    Hello
We had one last nght, normally we just get a cloth, throw the cloth over it, pick it up and put it outside, but last night it walked into a plastic carrier bag which was on the floor, so i picked up the bag and took the little thing into the garden.
I never kill anything if I can avoid it

last summer in the playa flamenca area apparently the council ran out of money so it couldn't smoke the drains out - there were certainly loads about!

The worst thing you can do apparently is step on them as they have invisible eggs that goes everywhere - is this true?

Anyone tried those high pitched plugin devices that are supposed to make all creepy crawlies fo elsewhere?

We`ve had about 4 or 5 of the big buggers. Fraid my other half gives them a whack, know you shouldn`t do that, and then flushes them away. One even had the cheek to crawl over him when we were in bed.............. Since stuffing up the overflows in the sinks and bidets, touch wood, haven`t seen anymore.

No - urban myth. the following comes from a cockroach FAQ.

          Q29: Leigh writes:
Me and my friends wanna know if the myth is true or its just an urban legend that cockroachs' eggs spread when u squish them with your shoe and you can spread them around where you walk?

          A: Leigh,
You and you friends are possibly responding to the urban paranoia about contracting and spreading cockroaches in ones work and home environments. It seems that they are everywhere and if your apartment or home gets infested one can begin to speculate on how those buggers got into your 'space'. You have correctly identified it as an urban legend.
It is highly unlikely that a cockroach egg case (ootheca) would survive a classic smooth leather soled shoe. But who wears smooth soled shoes these days? If an ootheca was lucky enough to lodge itself into the honeycomb of a sport shoe tread and the person took off the shoe in disgust and threw it in the corner, I could imagine the eggs surviving and the brutal attempt to end their young lives might have failed.
However the ootheca and contained eggs are huge and mechanically fairly fragile. Any good mashing should kill them all.
I am sorry if I have started another urban legend about the paranoia of passing cockroaches with improper footgear!
I am not recommending going back to smooth soled shoes but I would recommend looking at the size of the waffle holes in your sport/walking/running shoes to see how they compare to the size of an ootheca which is about the size of a pea.
          Chris.

            Bio Kill

We bought Bio Kill and have no more unwanted guests. There are so much stuff that does not help, but Bio Kill does the job properly. Use it at all entries of the house, and indoors where the different "beasts" have appeared. Like a miracle they are gone! For ever...? May be we have to do the same prosedure every year, but that's ok.

We just bought a big tin of spray, you can buy it anywhere, spray the floor and when the little critters walk over it they flip over and die!!!!

Black tin, yellow lid, CRUZ VERDE - CUCAL

              WORKS A TREAT

                  More Bio Kill

There is no smell after using Bio Kill. Of course there is a lot of text on the bottle, but since my spanish not yet is very good, I don't understand everything. It does say that it is a danger to the environment, though...
I feel safe and sound. So far...

Reading this thread with interest as I have a real fear of the little devils, its actually a phobia but I won't go into too much detail. Anyway because of said problem I have tried and tested many products on them and can confirm the following results:

                      1) Treading on them not satifactory if you have no shoes on! Urban myth or not, not only do they carry there eggs in their back but when hatched also there young, would hate to turn 1 into 50.

                      2) Sweeping them out, they will come back in, this will not stop you seeing any in your house, also not very satisfying as your lenient approach will become someone elses problem.

                      3) Plug in high pitched bleepers did not work but gave the dogs something to keep looking at.

                      4) Cucal is ok to kill them but you do need a lot of it and they take a while to keel over.

                      5) Oro spray which comes in a red tin is the best one I have found so far. You can spray them if you see them and they die straight away or you can spray around your house in all the corners etc and the next day you will find some dead ones. The treatment is only required once a year and they will stay away, don't know whats in it that is so potent but its great.

The only place I have managed to find Oro is the Mercadonna and its about 10 euros a tin but then I would pay 100 euro's if it meant no more of the little devils.

I do not know about this bio product but would like to if you have any more info.

I tried Raid and you need half a tin just to make them stop running then the other half to kill them. Not strong enough.

I have nightmares about them every night!!!!!! Horrible little devils!!!

The other half nearly killed himself and us with the fumes i make him spray front and back doors just in case. I freeze with fear even if i see a dead one so don't want them anywhere near the house. We also block up any overflow holes in bathroom and kitchen. Think i will try bio kill next time!
