chris, Freeview isn't 'delivered' to Spain. They have their own Freeview (or DVB-T) to give it it's correct name.

It on;y carrys Spanish channels, although a couple of them carry english speech as a secondary language option. I am watching it through the built in Freeview tuner inside my UK bought 43" plasma. The Sony channel carries quite a few American sit-coms with english .....let me know if you need more info.

Thanks for that, it just that they keep talking about it as if it's an English system, didn't quite know what it was. Thanks for your time.

"Freeview" is simply the nomenclature for the UK DTT platform broadcasting digital content from UK-based companies such as BBC and ITV and is therefore not available outside of the country (or indeed inside some of the country!).

DTT and satelite TV is not the same., DTT stands for Digital Terrestrial Television.
You recieve it through your normal antenna and dont need a dish. The only thing that you need is to buy a 25 € decoder and plug yout antenna in that.
Freeview is called TDT in Spanish.

              Freeview / Freesat

Although not through an aerial it is now possible to get a version of UK's freeview service via satellite, called Freesat which offers a much better coverage of the UK and of course Europe due to it being transmitted on the same satellite as Sky. No viewing cards or dodgy addresses required! Just the right sized dish.

I will be installing some dishes in the Alicante and Malaga at the start of September for a few weeks. If you need any advice or info just email me on jcrosby1000@hotmail.com Im more than happy to help!

                Sky Freeview

How strong is the Freeview transponder/what size dish is required, in your experience ?

                Cheers............

It all depends on your location, obviously the bigger the better but generally you can get most channels with a 1.8mtr dish with little or no issues. But we have been able to get the same results with dishes as small as 95cm... in fact in Nerja I have picked up 90% of channels using a 95cm dish but a couple of channels disappeared in the evenings.

I think, better to be safer than sorry, with a 1.8mtr dish you are less likely to have problems.

But we are willing to take the time to test a smaller dish in case you could get away with it. We always carry a stock of several 1.2mtr and 1.8mtr dishes on our van.

Hope this has been of some use!!!

                    Dish type

Do you have 1.8 and 1.2 prime focus, or offset focus ? I've never liked the offset dishes for some reason. Are you installing standard Sky boxes or Freesat specials ? Thanks for your fast comeback by the way...

                      Channels

Here you will find a complete list of all the Freesat channels being broadcast.

Let's hope the transponder is strong enough to give a receivable signal level in the Torrevieja area.

The 1.2 is an offset focus and the 1.8 is prime focus, I agree with you regarding the preference of prime focus to me seems more like a direct reception of the signal from the dish as appose to reflecting at an angle and with three arms well and truly securing the LNB in position instead of some flakey arm that may move about with the wind. BUT sometimes a prime focus dish isnt practical as people want them mounted on the side of a building.

I can supply new sky digiboxes but don’t get involved with arranging UK subscriptions, so you will end up with less channels than you could be getting with a Humax Freesat receiver. I can alternatively supply a Dreambox 600 satellite receiver which if connected to your internet connection can share our sky freesat card, the benefit being that if you ever wanted to change to receive an alternate satellite transmission the dreambox will always be able to accommodate your needs.

Just out of interest, when 'setting up' the Freesat box I believe it requests the UK postcode of the installation address (for various reasons given by Freesat) and fails to continue unless a valid UK postcode is entered...So what post code do you enter if using the box in Spain?
