I understand that if I sell my spanish property and but another spanish property I do not pay the CGT.
is there a maximum allowed period between selling and buying?

I would like to inform you that it is not true that you should not pay Capital Gains tax if you buy another property in Spain. You will have to pay taxes depending on the profit made and it does not matter whether after the sale, you invest money in another Spanish property.
