  • Blanket factory visits

I saw a flyer advertising visits to a blanket factory. Can anyone give me any more details of this. My house is between San Javier and Murcia. Is there any thing near me? Has anyone been on one othese visits - are they worthwhile?

While I am on the subject of factory shops I was wondering whether other readers of the forum have details of factory shops? Someone told me that there are a number of furniture factory shops in Yecla.

One of the good positive benefits of this forum is to share good information.

      Choose carefully!!!
I went on one where after visiting a bodega, shoeshop, blanket factory and animal sanctuary we only had 1 hr in Guadalest! Others are better I think

            Blanket Factory

The tours to the blanket factory are quite good. They leave a resonable amount of time to see the sights that are included and their prices are better than the Green Tour. Unfortunately these seem to have become really commercialised and they now add the 'opportunity' to see a Spanish show. Terrible food, second rate singer, and youngsters doing a form of Flamenco. If you don't stay to the show there is nowhere else to go and the prices for snacks at the attached cafe are exorbitant.

But are the blanket any good? If you go to a factory shop you expect factory prices - is this the case?

Could you please tell us how much these blankets cost?

Are there any shops in Torrevieja where we could buy them rather than taking the tour?

No, they are definitely made here in the blanket factories that sell them.

                        Blankets

Where you might have got confused is - the wool is imported from New Zealand and the Company is registered in Leeds. The Blanket factory (not the Green Tour outlet) makes up the blankets and then franchises to the outlet.

On the whole the Blanket Trips are fairly interesting in that you get a view of countryside or a village you may not have seen before, the leather factory outlet was quite small and not of great interest, the wine tasting was pleasant. There is alittle sort of talk and you can buy the different bottles of drinks. The blanket part of the trip is interesting IF you want to buy the blankets, we had a good look on the first trip but did not buy. We then had a look round at prices elswhere and then went on a German sponsered Blanket trip which was basically the same but we did buy blankets that time and have been very happy with them. But they ARE expensive.

                          Hope that helps Paddy!!

The German run trip had allot more variety of blankets and quilts.

There are a lot of hangers-on just to sell a few blankets -
The coach costs, the driver, the presenters and demonstrators, the free lunches, the lecture room ......

I expect the original cost is less then 50% of the selling price !
Has anybody found the original source of these blankets so people can buy them at a reasonable price.

                              Woolen blankets

The patter at the demonstrations is quite interesting. I would be interested what an informed medical view was. The demonstrators quote a BMA survey of the 80' but surely things have moved on? A trawl around a number of environmental sites shows that they recommend replacing woolen blankets with synthetic materials if there is an allergy to bed mites. I also never understood why a blanket can keep someone at an even temperature. If you are hot, then the blanket will make you hotter. Since marino wool is reputed to be able to absorb 30% of it's weight in liquid, presumably perspiration, then the natural process of expiration will be lost.
