That was a bit of whatname to post ...

thought people might like to add some more expressions, explain or ask about some of the details, share experiences of Christmas traditions in Spain etc.

Jane C, If you should want a real laugh with the Spanish language have a look at the "Beckham Interview" in todays Sunday Telegraph. It's a gas.

Nothing to do with Christmas, and I am no fan of either Mr or Mrs Beckham. However, it seems to me that he is "cruising for a bruising" whatever he does in this instance. If he's seen as not bothering to even try with the language, then he will be criticised. When he does try, then his efforts are also going to be criticised. Let's face it, his command of the English language is far from brilliant .......................... Give the guy a break though, he is probably making more of an effort than many expats who have been here much longer than he has. I don't suppose that their children are going to a Spanish school which might give the parents a bit more of an incentive, so they could help with homework, etc.

¿Es una gamba de dos medios?

Many people have rightly praised David Beckham for speaking Spanish at a press conference in Madrid last week and I am particularly thrilled to have secured an exclusive interview with the England captain so that he can again demonstrate his mastery of the language. Here is the transcript of our conversation the other day.

A very good morning to you, Mr Beckham. It is a great honour to meet you.

    Buenas armadas

Is it true that you have had some injury worries in the recent past?

Rioja! Ajillo! Mi pobre calamares!"

Let us hope you have now returned to full fitness

Jamon.

I suppose there must be some things you don't miss about England.

Does Victoria enjoy life in Spain?

Oh cervantes. Victoria e ecstatica con todas las butikas de moda e todos los fenomenale top couturios such as Albondigas, Torremolinos e Manchego. Ella es chronica shopaholica. Ella goes absolutamente lomo.

Remind me, what was the name of the group she used to sing with?

Las Chicas Picantes. E ella es Posha Picante.

And how are the two boys getting on?

Totalmente ensalada, totalmente jamon.

What cars are you driving at the present time?

The Tortilla Flamenco is a pretty pricey set of wheels, isn't it?

Do you find the Spanish tattoo artists satisfactory?

Yo have un fantastico tattuisto appelido Velazquez. El a executo muchos tattootos por me. Ayer Velazques a desinata Don Quixote on mi plancha, Sancho Panza on mi pelota e un windimillo on mi buttokos. Muy bonito.

    Are there any decent hairdressers?

There is un genio hair stylist appelido Francisco Goya. Manana yo will have un pigtelo com un matador e perhapas una bonita capa de matador e una espada de matador – e un costuma de matador por Victoria.

Can England football ever return to the glory days of 1966 when we beat the Germans in the final and won the World Cup?

It was fantastico in 1966 when il equipo ingles was vittorios over los Jerez con Franz Beckenbauer. They were the glory dias con Geoff Hurst, Roberto Charlton, Martinez Peters e Nobbios Stiles.

Yo esperar.

Para mi, yo intendo seriosamente tambien not botar la penulta high in el cielo abova il gol. Con esperanza.

Mr Beckham, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me today and may I wish you all the best for future matches and tattoos.

    Muchas gracias.

    Goodbye.

    Serrano.
