Anyone planning to go to Alicante for their NIE or Residencia should note that as from this Monday 4 July the location of the office has changed from near the start of the motorway at Calle Ibanisteria to a new office which is situated up close to the Alicante football stadium. The new building is in Calle de Campo de Mirra. A search on any of the Alicante street plan websites will give directions depending on where you are coming from. The pylons of the floodlighting at the stadium are good landmarks to head for. There is a very large carpark adjacent.
The first day of operation had some teething problems with power failure and computers going down resulting in only the first 41 applications being issued on the day. The rest were told to return tomorrow.
The new office is in a nicer part of the city but some distance from bars etc, and after queuing for some considerable time there are no seats as in the old building just more standing and queuing outside the building but insde the security fencei. For those with weak bladders the bad news is that there are no public toilets unlike the old place. However the good news is that the queues are segregated as to reason for visit so it is possible to see just how many are in the queue for NIE. The queue for fingerprints is a bit chaotic with a lot of pushing ad shoving requiring police intervention.
The change seemed to have caught out some of the reps who turned up at the old building like the rest of us.
No doubt the word will get around. Hope this is of help and prevent a wasted journey.
